FG Lifts Ban on New SIM Cards’ Issuance
The federal government yesterday reversed its policy banning the sale of new Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards. The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, in agreement with industry stakeholders, also yesterday revised the National Digital Identity Policy for SIM card registration. Standard Bank Appoints Sanni Chief Executive for Africa
The Standard Bank Group, Africa’s largest bank by assets has appointed Yinka Sanni as its new Chief Executive for Africa Regions and a member of the Group Leadership Council. Sanni, the group’s Regional Chief Executive for West Africa, takes over from Sola David-Borha, who is retiring after 31 years of service to the banking group. Read more
Inflation rate maintains upward trend, hits 18.17% in March
The consumer price index, which measures inflation increased by 18.17 per cent (year-on-year) in March 2021. This is 0.82 percent points higher than the rate recorded in February 2021 (17.33 per cent). The National Bureau of Statistics disclosed in its report on ‘Consumer Price Index’ for March 2021 on Thursday that March inflation rate remained the highest in four years. Read more
Experts blame insecurity, low production, forex as inflation hits 18.17%
Nigeria’s rate of inflation, which has maintained a continuous increase for more than a year, rose again in March, hitting a high of 18.17 per cent, according to data released on Thursday by the National Bureau of Statistics. Stakeholders bemoan security attacks, loopholes at airports
Aviation stakeholders have bemoaned heightened security concerns and attacks in and around airports nationwide, saying nothing has changed after many years of raising the alarm. Though they acknowledged that the airport could rarely be immured from general insecurity, experts said the aerodromes are national security and deserved better intelligence and new counter security measures. Power ministry explains nationwide blackout
The Ministry of Power has said the outage across the country is due to gas constraint, maintenance of Jebba Power Plant, and water shortage management in Shiroro Plant. This was disclosed yesterday in a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Power, Aaron Artimas. Read more
