The Nigerian equities market extended its bearish run to a fifth consecutive session, as the NGX All-Share Index (NGX-ASI) declined by 0.07% to close at 242,454.65 points. Consequently, market capitalisation fell to NGN156.52 trillion, representing an estimated NGN106.24 billion decline in investors’ wealth. Market breadth remained negative at 0.53x, with 19 gainers against 36 losers, while the Up/Down (UD) Volume Ratio stood at 5.85x, reflecting strong volume concentration in advancing counters despite the weak breadth.

Sectoral performance was mixed, although the broader market remained bearish. The Insurance Index recorded the steepest decline, shedding 1.48%, owing to losses in NEM and other insurance counters. The Banking Index followed, falling 0.46%, driven by declines in ZENITHBANK. In contrast, the Consumer Goods Index advanced 0.43%, supported by gains in DANGSUGAR, while the Oil & Gas Index edged 0.01% higher.
