Daily Market Report: 13_08_2026

The Nigerian Equities market extended its decline for a third consecutive session, as sustained selling pressure across major sectors kept the market in negative zone. Consequently, the NGX-ASI declined by 0.39% to 243,017.38 points, while market capitalisation shed NGN611.08 billion to close at NGN156.88 trillion. Market breadth weakened further to 0.39x, reflecting the dominance of decliners and broadly negative investor sentiment as 39 decliners outpaced 15 gainers.

Breaking down performance by sector, five of the six tracked sectors closed in the red. The Consumer Goods index (-1.22%) led the decline, weighed down by sustained sell pressure in UNILEVER (-9.97%), while the Industrial Goods (-0.75%) declined by and Insurance (-0.55%) indices followed. The Banking (-0.27%) and Oil & Gas (-0.07%) indices also closed lower. Notably, gains in insurance names including INTENEGINS (+10.00%), SUNUASSUR (+8.48%) and NEM (+6.25%) were insufficient to offset losses within the sector, particularly CORNERST (-9.09%) followed by PRESTIGE (-2.00%), REGALINS (-4.76%) and SOVRENINS (-4.04%).
